What is a carrier directory?

A carrier directory is a searchable index of the motor carriers registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Every for-hire trucking company in the United States has to register, file its operating authority, and keep insurance on file, and all of that is public record.

CarrierOk turns that record into something you can search. Filter by authority status, equipment, fleet size, insurance, region, and safety, then work the result as a carrier list inside the app or export it. Because the underlying filings publish continuously, the directory reflects them the same day rather than at the next data drop.

Reach the carriers you sell to, not the whole registry.

Every field on the record is a filter, and they combine. Ten flatbeds in Texas with active authority and a clean vehicle out-of-service rate is one search, not a research project.

Every result is the full record, not a name and a DOT number. Contact details come with it at no extra charge, alongside authority, insurance, fleet, and safety.

  • BASIC percentiles

Coverage follows what each carrier filed with the FMCSA, so some records are missing a field. Derived intelligence, including BASIC percentiles, ISS, risk signals, and VIN-decoded equipment, is part of the platform and the API.

Your pipeline lives on data that updates itself.

An exported list is a copy, and it starts drifting from the source the moment it lands. Here the record stays current and your team's work sits on top of it.

Lists, tags, and a stage per list

Group them your way, label them in your own words, and track where each one sits in your process.

Notes and an activity timeline

Every note, call, and export is recorded against the record, so the next person to open it sees what already happened.

Saved views that count what changed

Save a search and the app tells you how many new matches have appeared since you last looked.

Bring the book you already have

Import a CSV of DOT, MC, or EIN numbers and the app matches them to the record, handing back anything it could not match.

Everyone who sells to carriers works from the same record.

Insurance, factoring, fuel, equipment, and freight tech teams all start from the FMCSA record. What differs is the segment they cut out of it.

Sales and outbound

Segment the universe, work the results as lists, and reach carriers in the week they first appear.

Underwriting

Authority status and policy-level insurance filings, current each morning, beside the safety record.

Vetting and compliance

Authority history, insurance history, and the safety record on one screen before you tender or onboard.

Carrier Directory FAQ

CarrierOk is a carrier intelligence platform whose directory indexes every FMCSA registrant. It consolidates the FMCSA record on any motor carrier or broker and adds the scoring FMCSA does not publish: all 7 BASIC percentiles, a computed ISS score, 50+ named risk signals, and policy-level insurance history, with monitoring that reports changes the same day. The same record is delivered however you consume it: the directory and the web app, a REST API, a Chrome extension, or bulk files.
The directory covers every FMCSA-registered entity across the US, Canada, and Mexico: 4,659,686 in total, of which 2,286,428 hold an active USDOT registration and 394,341 hold active for-hire operating authority. Inactive and revoked records stay searchable, so you can see authority history rather than only today's snapshot. Measured September 10, 2026.
Filter the directory down to the carriers you want and export the result. A carrier list built this way is yours to rebuild whenever you like rather than a one-time purchase, and the export carries your own columns too: the lists each carrier is on, your tags, its stage, and when you last touched it.
Throughout the day. CarrierOk watches FMCSA registration, licensing, and insurance systems and re-ingests as they publish, so authority changes, insurance filings, and new registrations appear the same day they happen.
Contact details including primary contact, phone, cell, email, and website; operating authority status and history; policy-level insurance with insurer name, coverage amounts, and cancellation dates; VIN-decoded fleet composition; all 7 BASIC percentiles; inspection and crash records; and 50+ risk signals including chameleon carrier detection.
Yes. Filter by authority type and age, equipment and trailer type, fleet size, state and operating region, insurance coverage, and safety scores. Results export as structured CSV that carries your own columns too: the lists a carrier is on, your tags, its stage, and when you last touched it.
SAFER shows one carrier at a time with a subset of current-day data. CarrierOk is built for search at scale: filter across the whole registry at once, see policy-level insurance and VIN-decoded equipment that SAFER does not surface, read authority and contact history, and export the result.
Yes. Teams that need the full dataset delivered rather than searched can take a daily bulk drop into a cloud bucket they own. See the trucking company data page for delivery, or the API for per-carrier lookups inside your own product.
